Seedlings!!!

Planting seeds is fun. Thoughts of a plant growing- it's potential- perhaps dreams of a yummy meal, but all those thoughts pale in comparison to the absolute joy of discovering the first seed pop up. I've been doing this for over a decade now and seeing the first seed emerge, just doesn't get old!!
In just two days after planting 50+ varieties of seeds, the first seed made it's way into the word with a little green speck. A variety of luffa squash, that will someday (Mother Nature willing) grow into a big beautiful squash that we can dry and save to use. We tried to grow them last year, but the bugs ate all the starts we started early, and the seeds we planted, although they did grow, just didn't have enough time to develop fully. Such a disappointment- i.e. motivation for success this garden season!

Trees that fall

It's been a winter here in Klamath Falls. I don't remember ever having snow anxiety as much as I seem to now. The big snow storm of 2025 had us snowed in for 2 weeks, delayed multiple spring projects and saw the fall of a large tree limb on top of our resting garlic that got planted in the fall.
I have to admit I was pretty steamed about the tree- and for the record, insurance companies only cover rotting or unhealthy trees, so lucky us, we had a healthy limb collapse from weight of wet snow. The greenhouse roof made it through and for that we are grateful! Getting back to the nuisance of a large tree limb,  I was steamed. I mean mad. I mean super steamed and mad! How dare that tree come down on the precious garlic as it innocently lay dormant waiting to awake in the spring. I had images of throwing the pieces of the pine tree back over the neighbors fence- but who am I kidding, I'm not going to do that.
I've really been working on changing the perspective I have on something when I get frustrated. Working on an attitude of 'this happened for me' instead of 'this happened to me'. So as I started to settle in to the idea that I wouldn't be seeking revenge on the neighbors for the rouge limb, I started to look at the situation a little differently. Suppose I apply this perspective thing I am practicing....what if this limb happened for me? What then? I pondered....
Here's what I have come up with so far....I'm having visions of using the branches from the bows to make trellis's for the garden and practicing my bark stripping skills on the main branch to peel the wood into a peace pole for the garden. When I first came up with the idea, I had to laugh. Attitude really is everything.
